It was a Sahmel Sweep

in Lake Charles, La.

The Texas Putting Tour continued its season at the Lake Charles, La course. Lee Messinger the winner of the Louisiana State Championship contested the day before fired an opening round 23 to take a two stroke lead over Wade Sahmel and Charles Cox. A five on the fifteenth hole derailed Lee’s second round and left him tied with Joel Baker three in back of Wade who was in the lead at 20 under 52. Three other players were within one stroke of the lead at 19 under 53. Brice Bergesen, Jeffrey Smith and Al Simpson were the players sitting one stroke back. It looked like Wade would run away with the event after he made 11 of the first 12 holes only missing the eighth but a four on the 13th hole gave some hope to the field playing behind Wade. In the end Wade held on to the lead by making two of the last five holes. His final total of 31 under 77 was enough to win by two strokes over Brice and Lee. State spots went to Jeffrey Smith, Al Simpson and Greg Simpson.

After two rounds in the amateur division Jason Sheffield was in a comfortable position. His two round total of 21 under 51 left him with only one other player within six strokes of him. That player was Adam Sahmel who was sitting three strokes back. With Jason playing in the first group and Adam playing in the last Adam would know exactly what he needed to do coming down the stretch to win. After Jason came in with 6 under 30 Adam knew he could win. He needed to make two of the last three holes to accomplish the task. Adam made it easy on himself making both 16 and 17 so he did not have to work to hard on the last hole. Adam fired a three round total of 28 under 80. The second place finish gave Jason a sate spot. Additional spots went to Trevor Lewin and Lloyd Navarro in match play. Trevor defeated Bertz Ferguson and Lloyd beat Alan Sahmel.
